The Holidays are generally a time to reflect on times gone by. If you're anything like me, when it comes to pulling out the tree ornaments there are certain ones that conjure up special memories of loved ones, childhood moments and the like. This is also the time of year when going to the mailbox is a treat to see the cards that arrive. Some of those cards are so pretty that they warrant being saved.
The inspiration for this year's metal Holiday card comes from exactly this type of reflection. A selection of vintage paper cards were found by one of my co-workers as he was going through an elderly relatives belongings. The hand stamping and precise stipple effect triggered an exploration to interpret those characteristics onto metal.
Aluminum is a perfect foundation metal for this card. The transparent gold tint contrasts with bright silver of the aluminum for very elegant decoration. Further distinction with metallic inks and low gloss inks create visual dimension. The intricate embossed features for the center starburst and bright areas add physical dimension. Precise inlaid texture patterns can be found in between the sections of the ornament.
A selective soft touch gloss to the silver background is the finishing touch to make the graphic and text pop off the surface. Silver and gold are stunning complements to each other with this design. Overall the metal card has a luxurious feel along with showcasing detailed and precise decoration.
