A metal control panel is the surface between a product and its user. Trim can be functional or simply a decorative element that adds perceived value to the product. When designing a metal panel or trim piece, keep these elements in mind.
Graphics - Be sure that an easy to read layout is used with clear text and images.
Fabrication - Consider if there is need for embossed graphics or cut-outs to allow fit over control knobs, buttons, or around displays.
Finish - Select from a library of patterns or customize to suit your needs. Options from simple technical to faux carbon fiber structures exist. Another common finish is to simply show the natural metal. High or low gloss coatings as well as mill finish aluminum or brushed stainless steel are some options to consider.
Colors - Keep in mind colors for the metal panel or trim that match your corporate palette and complement the product. Opaque, transparent, and metallic effects are all options that work with the reflective metal surface for attractive results.
Adhesives - Consider the type of surface, any texture, what type of surface energy, and whether there is a unique coating that may affect the adhesion bond. A variety of options including 3M and other quality adhesives are available for secure attachment.
Thickness and Placement - Discussion on the size and thickness of metal control panels includes review of whether it will sit on top of a product, or fit into a recessed area. Each project is unique and ultimately custom-built to suit your application.
